TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto stated that the government has set a budget of Rp10,000 per individual for the free nutritious meal program, claiming it is sufficient for the regions.
Prabowo made this statement after announcing the increase in the provincial minimum wage following a limited meeting at the presidential office, the Jakarta Presidential Palace Complex, on Friday, November 29, 2024. The former TNI General mentioned that free nutritious meals are an additional welfare measure for the people.
"We wanted Rp15,000 but had to settle for Rp10,000 due to budget constraints,” he said.
The former Minister of Defense also illustrated how a family with three to four children could receive Rp2.7 million per month from this policy. "So, when combined with social assistance and other social benefits, including the Family Hope Program and other resources, I believe that’s part of the government’s efforts to protect all layers of society," said Prabowo.
Previously, the Head of the National Nutrition Agency, Dadan Hindayana, said the budget for the free nutritious meal program was Rp15,000 per child.
Dadan maintained that this had already been specified in the 2025 State Budget but would have to be adjusted in each region.
The National Nutrition Agency targets the free nutritious meal program to serve 82.9 million people by 2027. The government will commence a pilot project from Sabang to Merauke in December 2024. In January 2025, the government will implement the program extensively, starting from 923 locations.
Dadan explained that these locations would continue to expand to 2,000 points in April 2025, then to 5,000 points in July-August, and are expected to reach 82.9 million targets by 2027. "We have also developed a service unit base in the region where one service unit will handle 3,000 recipients," he said.
