TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Foreign Minister of Indonesia, Anis Matta, on November 10, 2024, held a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Waleed A. Elkhereiji on the sidelines of the Extraordinary Summit Preparation Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League, in Riyadh. At the beginning of the meeting, Anis conveyed information about the priorities of the new Indonesian government under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto.
Anis emphasized to Elkhereiji that Indonesia aims to establish a strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia in various fields. In relation to this, both Deputy Foreign Ministers discussed the plan of President Prabowo's working visit to Saudi Arabia in the near future.
In addition to discussing the plan of Prabowo's working visit to Saudi Arabia, various mutual concerns have also been discussed, including issues related to Hajj, education, and the protection of Indonesian citizens in Saudi Arabia.
This month, President Prabowo will visit several countries. Currently, Prabowo is on a working visit to the United States. Previously, he made his inaugural state visit to Beijing on November 8-10. Prabowo's trip to China was done in response to an invitation from the President of China, Xi Jinping. The Secretary-General of the Gerindra Party, Ahmad Muzani, confirmed that his boss's visit is expected to last for a total of 15 to 16 days.
"His route will include working visits to China, the United States, attending the APEC Summit (in Peru), the G20 Summit (in Brazil), and London," said Muzani at the Jakarta Presidential Palace complex on Friday, November 1, 2024. He did not provide specific dates for Prabowo's itinerary.
The APEC Summit will be held on November 10-16, 2024. Meanwhile, the G20 Summit will take place in Brazil on November 18-19, 2024. Information received by Tempo indicates that Prabowo's trip will commence on November 8, 2024. However, there is no certainty about the meetings of the head of state with several officials from the countries he will visit.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi stated that according to regulations, the duties of the President will be carried out by the Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka while Prabowo is abroad. Gibran's involvement, the son of former President Joko Widodo, in carrying out Prabowo's duties has sparked discussions on social media. The Head of the Presidential Communications Office, Hasan Nasbi, stated that Gibran carrying out Prabowo's duties while the head of state is abroad is a common occurrence. He emphasized that there is no such thing as an acting president.
