TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, during his first official bilateral visit to China on November 8-10, 2024, witnessed an agreement between PT PLN (Persero) and two major companies from China, Huawei and SDIC Power, in enhancing energy self-sufficiency in Indonesia. The signing took place at the Indonesia-China Business Forum (ICBF) in Beijing on Sunday, November 10, 2024.

President Prabowo Subianto expressed his appreciation for the synergy between Indonesia and China, particularly in the energy sector. This step also reaffirms his commitment to realizing national energy self-sufficiency by strengthening the relationship between Indonesia and China, especially in sustainable energy sectors.

"This collaboration marks a new chapter in the Indonesia-China economic relationship and serves as a strong foundation for various sectors, including energy and technology, to develop sustainably," said President Prabowo.

The President Director of PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo, stated that as the backbone of the nation's electricity supply, PLN is committed to collaborating with global partners to achieve sustainable energy self-sufficiency. Climate crisis is a global challenge, and this collaboration is evidence of both countries jointly safeguarding the future of the planet.

Through these two MoUs, PLN solidifies its position in maintaining sustainable energy availability while supporting the Prabowo-Gibran Administration in realizing energy self-sufficiency in Indonesia. This collaboration not only demonstrates the deepening bilateral relationship between Indonesia and China, particularly in eco-friendly energy collaboration.

"This synergy underscores our strong commitment with international partners to enhance energy self-sufficiency, which will drive the economy for the people of Indonesia," emphasized Darmawan.

Meanwhile, the Corporate Planning and Business Development Director of PLN, Hartanto Wibowo, explained that PLN has engaged two Chinese companies in the development of the energy sector in the country. Hartanto detailed that under the agreement with PT Huawei Tech Investment, PLN and Huawei agreed to collaborate in accelerating digital transformation studies in the electricity sector. This cooperation will help optimize the electricity industry to be more efficient, secure in cybersecurity, and support energy transition in Indonesia through solar energy, micro-grid systems, hybrid power plants, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure (EV).

"This collaboration is not only to strengthen infrastructure but also as an effort to enhance the capacity of PLN employees through sharing knowledge and capacity building in digital transformation of the electricity sector," added Hartanto.

The second collaboration signed involves SDIC Power, with a focus on the development of the Mamberamo Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) in Papua. In addition to creating integrated demand for renewable energy, PLN and SDIC Power will also conduct joint studies on the business, technical, legal, and risk aspects of this hydroelectric power plant.

"With SDIC Power, we plan to enhance the technical and managerial capabilities of PLN in the development of the Mamberamo PLTA. This collaboration is part of PLN's commitment to increase the use of renewable energy, as well as to expand clean and sustainable energy access for the people of Papua and other regions," concluded Hartanto.
