TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto urges leading U.S. corporations, such as Freeport, Chevron, General Electric, Georgetown, and others, to keep investing in Indonesia.
He conveyed the statement during a meeting with members of the U.S.-Indonesian Society (USINDO) at the Four Seasons Hotel, Washington DC, on Monday, November 11, 2024, local time.
Prabowo expressed his delight at the enthusiasm of U.S. companies to continue contributing to Indonesia's economic development. He also mentioned that these corporations are deeply involved in Indonesia's economy and development.
“They continue to have faith in Indonesia, in the Indonesian economy, and I also encourage them to continue investing and participating in our development plans,” said Prabowo in a video statement quoted from the official Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.
Minister of Investment and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board Rosan Roeslani remarked that the discussions were productive, with renewable energy issues receiving special attention.
Several major energy companies even expressed their interest in investing in carbon capture and geothermal technologies in support of Indonesia's net zero emission target. However, no official agreements were reached at today's meeting.
Prabowo also addressed his stance on corruption, which he likened to a cancer in the economy. He emphasized that there is zero tolerance for corruption at all levels.
“He even mentioned that he can be contacted directly to report corruption or anyone causing problems. It’s a highly positive and clear message, which was appreciated for President Prabowo’s straightforwardness,” Rosan said.
Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of Investment and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board Rosan Roeslani, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Stella Christie, as well as the Charge d'Affaires of the Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC Ida Bagus Made Bimantara, were also present, accompanying President Prabowo in the meeting with USINDO members.
