TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta gubernatorial candidate number 3, Pramono Anung, has pledged to continue the plan initiated by former governor Anies Baswedan to sell the shares of PT Delta Djakarta, a company that produces alcoholic beverages.
Pramono claimed to have discussed the matter with Anies on November 20, 2024. He emphasized that the final decision to sell the shares rests with the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council (DPRD).
“If elected, I will urge the DPRD to expedite the process of issuing regulations to enable the sale of PT Delta's shares,” Pramono said after a campaign event in Petukangan Utara, Jakarta, on November 20, 2024.
He reiterated his commitment to selling the shares, stating, “Yes, we will sell it. Why not?”
Former governor Anies Baswedan and his deputy Sandiaga Uno failed to sell PT Delta's shares during their tenure. The DPRD was divided on the issue, with some members opposing the sale while others supported it.
Gembong Warsono, chair of the PDIP faction in the DPRD, strongly opposed the sale of PT Delta's shares. He argued that the company, which produces well-known brands like Anker, Carlsberg, Kuda Putih, and San Miguel, is profitable and contributes to the city's revenue through dividends.
“Why should we sell shares in a healthy company that clearly generates revenue for Jakarta?” he questioned.
Gembong expressed concerns about the government's financial situation and questioned the necessity of selling the shares. He emphasized that the government should retain its 26.25 percent stake in the company. Moreover, the company distributes its profits worth tens of billions of rupiah each year.
The PKB faction also voiced similar concerns, with advisor Darussalam warning against hasty divestment without careful consideration and consultation with the DPRD. He argued that by retaining its shares, the government can maintain oversight over the production and distribution of alcoholic beverages. However, if the government proceeds with the sale, it would lose control over the company.
