TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung vows to raise Jakarta's Global City Index. Pramono aims to improve Jakarta's current ranking of 74 out of 156 cities to 50th.

"Jakarta, as a global city, currently ranks 74 out of 156, (could) become ranked 50," said Pramono when met at Jakarta City Hall on Monday, March 17, 2025.

Jakarta's global city index has fallen to 74th place out of 156 cities in the world. This is based on data from the Global Cities Index (GCI) issued by the Kearney institution in 2023. The position has dropped five ranks from 2022 and seven ranks from 2021.

According to Pramono, several factors have caused the global city index to decline. "There has been a great decline due to several factors, one of the main factors is human resources," he said.

Therefore, one of Pramono's focuses will be managing human resource empowerment in Jakarta. One of the strategies he will pursue is talent Management systems for civil servants working in the Jakarta provincial government. "Is it possible? We had experience in 2015 and 2016, without better-managed Jakarta at that time, the ranking was already 54," Pramono said.

In addition, Pramono said he would be more serious about establishing international cooperation. According to him, this is also an important aspect to improve Jakarta's ranking as a global city.

The PDIP politician previously committed to improving the quality and capacity of school canteens in support of the Free Nutritious Meal Program. Pramono believes that transforming these school canteens will align with his vision of making Jakarta a global city. "These canteens are expected to become learning centers for parents, a means of nutritional distribution, and comfortable spaces for the entire school community," he said as quoted by Tempo in his official statement on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
