TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor candidate number 1, Ridwan Kamil, rejects the idea of a maximum age limit as a job requirement. According to him, requirements that discriminate based on age are not relevant.
"People above 35 (years old) are not productive? No, that's not right," said Ridwan during his visit to the Cakung area, Pulogebang, East Jakarta on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
He believes that rules setting age limits actually make it difficult for people to find jobs. Whereas, if an individual has the intention to work, no matter what their age is, it should not be a problem.
Therefore, Ridwan Kamil stated that if elected as Governor of Jakarta for the next five years, he will create strict regulations regarding age requirements for workers. He desires to eliminate age restrictions as job requirements.
"Later, I will create clear rules. Do not be restricted by age," said the man popularly known as Emil.
In addition, Emil encourages the widespread availability of opportunities for young people to intern before entering the workforce. He mentioned that internships should not only be open in government institutions, but also in thousands of private companies.
According to Ridwan Kamil, providing internships in private companies can serve as a place for young people to train. He also wants to establish rules for internship programs that are non-discriminatory and free from favoritism.
