TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Persaudaraan Alumni or PA 212 will hold a grand reunion in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, in the early hours of Monday, December 2, 2024. Deputy Chair of the 212 Reunion, Buya Husein, said the event will be attended by Rizieq Syihab, the former Chair of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI).
"InshaAllah, the 212 Grand Reunion this year will be attended by the Grand Imam Habib Rizieq Syihab, as previously attended by him," said Buya Husein when contacted by Tempo on Sunday, December 1, 2024.
Buya also said that the committee has invited figures from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Central, executive and legislative officials, as well as President Prabowo Subianto.
The 212 Reunion will take place from 03:00 to 08:00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) with the theme 'Revolution of Morals for Blessed Indonesia and Independent Palestine'. "Preparations for the main stage, sound systems, VIP and VVIP tents, as well as logistical and health tents, are already set up around Monas Intersections," said Buya.
According to Buya, the committee hopes that the number of participants attending this year's reunion will be the same as or close to the 2016 event attended by hundreds of thousands of people.
The 212 Action, also known as the Islamic Defense Action, was a rally involving thousands of Muslim followers at the National Monument grounds, Jakarta, on Friday, December 2, 2016. The participants demanded that the inactive Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok, be punished for alleged blasphemy against Islam. However, the rally was seen as politically motivated as it was held just before the Jakarta Gubernatorial Election contest.
