TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian currency rupiah closed weak by 92 points or 0.59 percent against the US dollar in today's trade, November 12, 2024. The rupiah exchange rate is currently recorded at Rp15,781.5 per US dollar, as monitored from Asia-Pacific currencies data on Bloomberg.
Other Asian currencies were also weakened against the dollar. As of 15:44 today, the Hong Kong dollar fell slightly by 0.03 percent and the JPY dropped by 0.09 percent.
The Singapore dollar also dropped by 0.33 percent, not far from the Taiwanese dollar which fell by 0.34 percent. Meanwhile, the Malaysian ringgit was down by 0.62 percent, and the Thai plunged by 0.79 percent.
Ibrahim Assuaibi, Director of PT Laba Forexindo Berjangka, predicted that the rupiah exchange rate would fluctuate and close weaker tomorrow at around Rp15,770 - Rp15,880.
From an external perspective, according to Ibrahim's analysis, the rupiah movement was influenced by predictions of inflation policies under Donald Trump's leadership. The US-elected president is expected to maintain high interest rates in the long run.
"Trump's protectionist stance towards trade and immigration is expected to be a factor in higher inflation," said Ibrahim in his written statement.
At today's close, the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (Jisdor) data from Bank Indonesia shows the rupiah at Rp15,771 per US dollar. This is weaker compared to the end of last week, at Rp15,677 per US dollar.
