TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Influential Russian parliament member, Konstantin Kosachev, criticized the summit of European leaders in London on Sunday, March 2, 2025. He stated that the meeting did not produce a plan to resolve the war in Ukraine.

Kosachev said the only thing Ukraine can rely on is the improvement of Russia-U.S. relations.

He scorned the outcomes of the London meeting as a "a desperate attempt to pass off as success the failure of a 10-year policy of inciting Ukraine towards Russia by the same Great Britain and, until recently, the United States."

Kosachev said Europe has no plan. The head of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the upper house of the Russian parliament expressed that on the Telegram messaging app, quoted from Reuters.

He added that Ukraine can only rely on Russia-U.S. relations.

Kosachev stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who hosted the meeting, "cannot fail to understand this".

Leonid Slutsky, the chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the lower house, said the meeting would not save Zelensky's position two days after his talks in Washington with President Donald Trump ended in a fierce dispute.

"The London summit will not save the ringleader of the Ukrainian Nazis," Slutsky wrote on Telegram. "Zero results, a failed attempt to restore the clown's political reputation after his resounding failure in Washington."

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now a senior security official, criticized the London meeting before it ended, describing it on X as an "coven... to swear allegiance to the Nazi nobodies in Kiev" and a "shameful sight."

Starmer, speaking after the meeting, stated that the participants had agreed to develop a Ukrainian peace plan to be presented to the United States. Starmer said Britain, Ukraine, France, and other countries would form a "willing coalition" to produce the plan.

Zelensky said that he felt strong support from Europe. He believed he could salvage his relations with Trump, but talks need to be continued in a different format.

Meanwhile, France and Britain proposed a partial one-month ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, but it would not include ground battles. French President Emmanuel Macron said the ceasefire would cover air, sea, and energy infrastructure attacks.

Macron added that the front line of the two countries' battles is equivalent to the distance between Paris and Budapest.
