TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of Operations for the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency, Syarifuddin, said that several individuals remain unaccounted for following the fire at Glodok Plaza in West Jakarta on Wednesday night, January 15, 2025. As of 11:09 a.m. today, at least five people are still missing.
“The last report I received was around 3:00 a.m. that a female cashier from a discotheque was missing,” Syarifuddin said in front of Glodok Plaza on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
He further mentioned receiving a report from a man earlier today stating that four of his friends had not returned home.
The fire at Glodok Plaza was successfully extinguished around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday morning.
Syarifuddin confirmed that nine individuals were successfully evacuated from the building. “We were able to evacuate all nine people, thankfully they are all safe,” he said at the scene on Thursday morning.
These nine individuals, he explained, were employees working at Glodok Plaza. They were rescued using a rescue ladder. “We acted quickly to evacuate them,” Syarifuddin emphasized.
According to initial reports, the fire originated from a nightclub on the 7th floor of Glodok Plaza and subsequently spread to the 8th and 9th floors.
