TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU) will hold the second debate of the Jakarta gubernatorial election at Beach City International Stadium, North Jakarta, on Sunday night, October 27, 2024. The theme of the second debate will focus on Economy and Social Welfare with six sub-themes to be debated by the pairs of candidates tonight.

"The second debate with these major themes is about the economy and social welfare," said Chair of Jakarta KPU Wahyu Dinata when met with the media at the Jakarta KPU building, Salemba, Central Jakarta, on Saturday, October 27, 2024.

Wahyu stated that the technical implementation of the second debate is similar to the mechanism of the first debate held on October 6. The upcoming second debate will last for about 150 minutes with six segments consisting of delivering vision-mission and work programs, moderator-led vision-mission deepening, inter-candidate Q&A session, and closing statements.

Furthermore, Wahyu mentioned that in this second debate, KPU will provide the opportunity for the public to submit questions to the pairs of candidates. "The concept is the same but in this debate, we also involve public participation," he said.

The same sentiment was expressed by the Chair of the Socialization Division, Voter Education, and Public Participation of Jakarta KPU, Astri Megatari.

Astri stated that KPU has invited seven representatives from various societal groups including fishermen and underprivileged communities who are deemed to have been less addressed to voice their aspirations which will be formulated as questions by the panelists.

"The panelists can dig deeper from there so the questions will be sharper and enriched with data and feedback from the public," said Astri when met with the media at the Jakarta KPU building, Salemba, Central Jakarta, on Saturday, October 27, 2024.
