TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Special IT Team of the South Sumatra Police Narcotics Directorate arrested two drug couriers from an international narcotic network, carrying 50 packages of crystal meth in Bogor, West Java.
South Sumatra Police Chief Ins. Gen. Andi Rian Djajadi said that in uncovering the case, his side was assisted by the National Police Narcotics Crime Directorate. The authorities secured Yogi Yanwar and Muji Supriyanto, suspected of being part of an international network.
The suspect naming was the result of the development of the Hamka Poniman case, who was previously arrested for carrying one kilogram of the same type of crystal methamphetamine in Lubuklinggau, South Sumatra, in July 2024.
"Both were nabbed at Jalan Gunung Gede, Griya Bantar Sentosa Housing, Babakan Village, Bogor Tengah District, Bogor City, West Java Province," Andi Rian said during a press conference at the Presisi Building on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
In the disclosure, the South Sumatra Police confiscated 50 packages of crystal meth weighing 50 kilograms were found in a bag wrapped in plastic in a Wuling car with a Bogor police number.
"The crystal meth packages were wrapped in brown tape weighing 50 kilograms. The type is a crystal with a higher methamphetamine content and the shape is also bigger," said the police.
Andi suspected that the illicit drugs came from the Golden Crescent or Crescent Triangle because of the characteristics of its color and shape. In this case, the two couriers face the death penalty or life imprisonment.
After processing, the 50 kilograms of crystal meth were destroyed by the South Sumatra Police together with the South Sumatra Governor Elen Setiadi.
