TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) and the Labor Party welcomed the decision of the Tangerang City Wage Council Plenary Meeting regarding the determination of City Minimum Wage (UMK) and the City Sectoral Minimum Wage (UMSK) for 2025.
KSPI President and Chairman of the Labor Party, Said Iqbal, regards this achievement as proof of the collective struggle of workers. He stated that this success is inseparable from the consistency of the Labor Party in fighting for workers' welfare, including through a judicial review victory in the Constitutional Court.
"This decision is a step forward in advocating for fair wages for workers. We invite other regions to follow Tangerang City's lead in setting a fair wage increase," said Said Iqbal in a written statement on Saturday, December 14, 2024.
In the meeting, Tangerang's UMK was agreed to rise by 6.5 percent in accordance with Minister of Manpower Regulation No. 16 of 2024. This increment translates to IDR 309,418.82, bringing the total UMK for Tangerang City in 2025 to IDR 5,069,708.36.
The meeting, held at the Tangerang City Manpower Office, was attended by representatives from Worker/Labor Unions, Entrepreneurs (Apindo and Kadin), Academics, and the Tangerang City Government.
In addition to the UMK, the Wage Council also agreed on the UMSK for various leading sectors in Tangerang City, with additional increments ranging from 2 to 7 percent of the 2025 UMK. For Sectoral 1, for instance, the wage increase reaches 13.5 percent. This value is derived from a 6.5 percent UMK increase and a 7 percent Sectoral increase, totaling 13.5 percent.
The Labor Party and KSPI call on all labor elements in Indonesia to maintain this fighting spirit, especially in overseeing UMK and UMSK increases in accordance with the Constitutional Court Decision Number 168/PUU-XXI/2023
Previously, Banten Acting Governor Al Muktabar also set the 2025 Banten Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) at IDR 2,905,119.90. This figure rose 6.5 percent from the previous year's UMP, aimed at improving the welfare of workers in the region.
Additionally, the provincial sectoral minimum wage (UMSP) for Banten was also set with a 6.5 percent increase, to IDR 2,916,644.90. This decision is regulated in Banten Governor Decree No. 456 and 457 of 2024.
Minister of Manpower Yassierli said the setting of the 2025 provincial minimum wage or UMP at 6.5 percent was without a definite calculation formula. According to Yassierli, this was due to the very tight time frame for the UMP discussion as it had to be set before the end of 2024.
"I often say this is an exception, yes, we have to come out with a simple policy because time was also tight," Yassierli told Tempo, Monday, December 9, 2024.
Therefore, Yassierli mentioned, the central government eventually chose the option to uniformly apply a 6.5 percent UMP increase in all provinces in the country. This is to anticipate protracted discussions at the regional level regarding the 2025 UMP amount.
