1. Indonesia's Customs Seize 102 iPhone 16 Worth Rp714mn
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance has managed to seize 289 units of illegally imported cell phones, smartphones, and tablets (HKT) valued at Rp867 million. This seizure was the result of eight enforcement actions conducted between November 4 and 27, 2024.
Among the seized items, 102 units of Apple iPhone 16 valued at Rp714 million, were identified as intended for resale rather than personal use, classifying them as controlled goods.
2. Prabowo Says Free Meal Program Allots Rp10,000 per Individual
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto stated that the government has set a budget of Rp10,000 per individual for the free nutritious meal program, claiming it is sufficient for the regions.
Prabowo made this statement after announcing the increase in the provincial minimum wage following a limited meeting at the presidential office, the Jakarta Presidential Palace Complex, on Friday, November 29, 2024. The former TNI General mentioned that free nutritious meals are an additional welfare measure for the people.
3. High Abstention Rate in Jakarta Elections Reflects Public Disillusionment, Says Perludem
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The recent Jakarta Regional Elections saw a high number of voters abstaining. Asep Hasan Sadikin, a researcher at the Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem), attributes this low voter turnout to a mismatch between public aspirations and the candidates endorsed by political parties.
Asep explained that public opinion polls consistently indicated strong support for figures like Anies Baswedan and Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok). For instance, a survey conducted by Indikator Politik Indonesia in July 2024 placed Anies at the top with 39.7% electability, followed by Ahok with 23.8% and Ridwan Kamil with 13.1%. However, neither Anies nor Ahok received backing from any political party.
