1. Indonesian Minister Claims Satisfaction of Hajj Pilgrims Better in 2025 Than Last Year

Indonesia's Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar did not have much to say about the proposal to form a special committee or hajj special committee (pansus haji) for 2025 by the House of Representatives (DPR). Nasaruddin only stated that the level of satisfaction of pilgrims with the implementation of the 2025 Hajj is better compared to last year.

"The research results are clear, the satisfaction level of hajj pilgrims is better compared to last year," he said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque is also awaiting the revision of the Hajj Law. He hopes that the DPR will soon ratify the regulation so that the Hajj Executing Agency can immediately lead the implementation of the Hajj.

2. Measles Outbreak in North Sumatra: Understanding the Risk Factors for the Disease

Measles outbreak has hit North Sumatra in Indonesia with 1,191 suspected measles cases reported from January to July 10, 2025. Out of these cases, 362 were confirmed as measles and 10 as rubella.

Quoted from the North Sumatra Provincial Health Office website, a state of Emergency (KLB) has been reported in 12 regencies and cities in North Sumatra. The highest number of positive cases were in Medan with 159 cases, Deli Serdang with 101 cases, and Tebing Tinggi with 16 cases. Most cases affected children aged 1 to 9 years, with 56 cases having no history of MR immunization.

According to WebMD, measles is an infection caused by a virus. The measles virus lives in the mucus of the nose and throat. The disease spreads through the air and direct contact with an infected person. The virus can remain active on surfaces and in the air for up to 2 hours.

3. Gov't Reopens Registration for 80th Independence Day Ceremony at Merdeka Palace

The Indonesian government has reopened public registration for those wishing to attend the country’s 80th Independence Day (HUT ke-80 RI) celebration and the national flag-lowering ceremony at Merdeka Palace on August 17, 2025.

Registration for the additional quota is available via the Pandang Istana Presiden website (pandang.istanapresiden.go.id) on August 7 and 8, starting at 10:00 AM WIB (Western Indonesia TIme). This second phase of registration follows a surge in demand, which saw the initial quota (released on August 4) filled within just two days.

Within 30 minutes of the first registration opening, over 26,000 users accessed the website to secure a spot, according to State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, who leads the organizing committee.
