Traffic at Key Toll Gates Up 50% During Christmas, Year-End Holiday

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk reported that two major toll gates along the Trans Java route—Cikampek Utama Toll Gate and Kalikangkung Toll Gate—served hundreds of thousands of vehicles during the Christmas and New Year holiday period, from December 18, 2024, to January 5, 2025. Both toll gates saw a significant increase in traffic compared to normal levels.

The Kalikangkung Toll Gate in Semarang, which serves as the main entry point to Central and East Java, also recorded a surge in traffic. A total of 409,909 vehicles passed through heading towards Semarang, marking an increase of 51.02 percent compared to normal traffic. Meanwhile, 407,249 vehicles departed from Semarang, a 53.30 percent rise from the daily average under normal conditions.

The Cikampek Utama Toll Gate, the main gateway for vehicles entering and leaving the Trans Java region, saw a significant rise in traffic as well. During the holiday travel period, a total of 714,547 vehicles passed through, heading to the eastern Trans Java region, an increase of 33.57 percent from normal traffic. Vehicles entering from the eastern Trans Java region totaled 692,352 units, up 29.67 percent.

Ria Marlinda Paallo, vice president of corporate secretary and legal at PT Jasamarga Transjawa Toll, explained that the management of traffic during the holiday season was carried out with strategic measures, including increased service capacity, traffic engineering, and real-time information provision for road users.

“We would like to thank all stakeholders and operational staff who worked tirelessly, both on-site and in providing up-to-date information. This collaboration greatly assisted road users in planning their journeys more effectively,” she said in an official statement on Wednesday, January 8.

She also praised the compliance of road users in adhering to traffic regulations while on the toll roads. “The compliance of road users greatly contributed to the smooth flow of traffic. By following signs and directions from officers, the driving experience became safer and more comfortable for everyone,” she added.
