Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky hopes for the role of Donald Trump, who is projected to win the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election, in ending the war in Ukraine.
This was conveyed by Zelensky in his congratulatory message to Trump through social media X, as reported by France24, on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.
Zelensky discussed Ukraine's recovery cooperation in a meeting with Trump last September.
"I remember that in the meeting with President Trump last September, we discussed in detail the strategic cooperation between Ukraine and the U.S., the Victory Plan of Ukraine, and the strategy to end Russia's aggression against Ukraine," said Zelensky, already referring to Trump as "President".
He appreciates Donald Trump's diplomacy strategy of "peace through strength." He believes this is the right approach to achieve a fair peace for Ukraine.
The Ukrainian President also believes that the U.S. support under Donald Trump's leadership for his country will always be strong.
"We look forward to the time when the United States becomes strong under President Trump's firm leadership. We also depend on bipartisan support for Ukraine in the United States," said Zelensky.
He also expressed the desire to develop beneficial political and economic cooperation between the two countries.
As one of the strongest economies in Europe, Zelensky said Ukraine is also "committed to maintaining long-term peace and security in Europe and the Trans-Atlantic region with the support of allies".
Donald Trump is projected to win the 2024 Presidential Election and become the 47th President of the US according to Fox News data, against his rival from the Democratic Party, also the incumbent Vice President, Kamala Harris.
Trump is predicted to have won 277 electoral votes, surpassing the 270 electoral votes needed to win the US Presidential Election.
Meanwhile, according to the quick count data from Associated Press (AP), Trump obtained 51.2% of the popular vote, defeating Harris who received 47.4%.
