WhatsApp is testing a new feature called Quick Recap to summarize messages from multiple unread conversations. This feature allows users to access important information without having to open each chat room. This feature is an extension of Message Summaries, which was released last month and displays a summary of unread chats, as reported by GSM Arena on Sunday, July 20, 2025.
According to WABetaInfo, Quick Recap can provide summaries from five different conversations. Users simply select the chat room from the Chat tab, tap the three-dot icon in the top-right corner, and choose the Quick Recap option.
This feature uses Meta's private processing system. Neither WhatsApp nor third parties can access the content of messages or their summaries. Quick Recap is optional and can be disabled at any time by the user.
However, chats protected by the Advanced Chat Privacy feature cannot be summarized via Quick Recap. This feature is noted to appear in WhatsApp beta version 2.25.21.12 for Android, but it is not yet available to the general public as it is still under development. Users can test the feature's performance in future updates.
WhatsApp Feature
Previously, WhatsApp tested the Summarize with Meta AI feature, designed to automatically summarize the content of long chats. This feature is intended to help users manage large volumes of messages, especially in busy group chats or business conversations.
This feature is currently being tested in the WhatsApp Android app. The Meta AI Summary button will appear above unread messages in a conversation. Users simply tap the button to instantly get a summary of the chat content.
According to PCMag, this feature is opt-in, meaning it is only active if users agree to the Private Processing settings. Meta explains that this processing takes place in a secure environment, and no one can access the message content or its summary.
This feature will not work if users enable Advanced Chat Privacy. This setting prevents the export of conversation content, thereby limiting the automatic summary process. When users select the summary option, the request is processed privately. This process ensures that message content remains secure and cannot be accessed by WhatsApp, Meta, or any third parties.
