TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian men's national volleyball team will compete against the host team, Thailand, in the battle for the gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games, held at the Indoor Stadium Huamark in Bangkok on Friday, December 19, 2025. The final match is scheduled for 17.30 WIB (Western Indonesia Time).
Indonesia advanced to the final after coming back to defeat Vietnam in the semifinals on Thursday. The team, led by Jeff Jian Jie, who initially lost in the first two sets, managed to win the last three sets, resulting in a 21-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-19, 15-10 victory.
The Chinese coach felt very proud of all the players. "From the start, we had prepared a game plan, and the players tried to execute it well," Jeff said after the semifinal match on Thursday, as quoted by Antara.
Jeff revealed that their victory over Vietnam was due to the players' ability to continue believing in the game plan despite being under great pressure in the first two sets of the match. He mentioned that Indonesia's comeback occurred after the players regained the fighting spirit and confidence that had waned at the beginning of the match.
"I just asked them to restore their fighting spirit, play with confidence, and believe in their own abilities. Self-confidence is the most important thing," said the 62-year-old coach.

Jeff, who previously led the Indonesian men's volleyball team to win gold medals at the SEA Games in 2021 and 2023, stated that this victory serves as a valuable lesson for young Indonesian players in facing pressure and difficult situations at the international level. The squad he brought to the SEA Games is dominated by young players with little experience in crucial matches, such as the semifinals. "They need time to develop and gain experience," he said.
Looking ahead to the final match against the host team, which advanced to the final after defeating the Philippines in three straight games, 25-20, 25-19, 25-21, Jeff hopes his players can maintain their mental and physical performance. He wants his team to play without being burdened by the pressure of competing for the gold medal.
"I hope they can play in the same way in the final, keep fighting. When we win matches like this, the team will become strong," said Jeff.
The Indonesian men's volleyball team will become champions of the SEA Games for the fourth consecutive time if they can defeat Thailand. The last time the two teams faced each other in the final of this SEA Games event was in the 2017 edition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Indonesia lost 1-3 at that time.
