TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - According to the 2024 Asia Scam Report compiled by the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA), 65 percent of Indonesians experience scam attempts every week. These scams take various forms, from fake job offers to investment fraud.
To counter this increasing threat, the Indonesian branch of GASA has been launched. GASA Indonesia will focus on information exchange between industries, public education campaigns, and policy innovation to strengthen digital trust and security.
One of GASA Indonesia's primary objectives is to establish a private sector coalition that collaborates closely with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Komdigi), the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and other relevant institutions to foster robust synergy between the public and private sectors.
Yesterday, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison and Mastercard, together with the Indonesian Fintech Association (Aftech), announced the launch of the GASA Indonesia branch. This is the second GASA branch to open in Southeast Asia, after the one that opened in Singapore last year. GASA is an international non-profit organization that brings together stakeholders from the public and private sectors to address cybercrimes.

Indosat will lead the GASA Indonesia branch as the chair, with Mastercard and Aftech as vice-chairs. "Indosat is proud to contribute to our leadership in this movement, in line with our grand mission to empower Indonesia," said Chief Legal & Regulatory of Indosat, Reski Damayanti, who serves as the Chair of GASA Indonesia, in an official statement on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
According to Aileen Goh, Mastercard's Country Manager in Indonesia, also the Vice Chair of GASA Indonesia, this alliance plays a crucial role in bridging Indonesia with the global network of anti-scam alliances. "The launch of the GASA Indonesia branch combines the best global and local expertise to combat digital fraud by leveraging the collective experience of all members," she said.
The launch of GASA Indonesia received positive feedback from OJK. "OJK welcomes the establishment of the GASA Indonesia branch as a strategic initiative that aligns with our mission through the Indonesia Anti-Scam Centre (IASC) to strengthen cross-sector collaboration in tackling fraud and enhancing consumer protection," said the Executive Head of Financial Services Business Players Behavior Oversight, Education, and Consumer Protection at OJK, Friderica Widyasari Dewi.
Currently, GASA Indonesia is initiating research on the state of scams in Indonesia. This research will provide new insights into the local threat landscape, consumer vulnerabilities, and evolving scam tactics. Hopefully, the results of this research can inform the development of effective prevention strategies by stakeholders in various sectors.
