TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - If you dream of living and residing abroad, you can make it a reality by applying for a scholarship. New Zealand is currently offering one through its Manaaki New Zealand scholarship program.
Citing the official website of the University of Auckland, the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships are administered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, with funding from the New Zealand Aid program.
These scholarships, primarily directed to citizens from developing countries, aim to facilitate candidates to develop new skills and knowledge to contribute to the development of their respective home countries.
There are a variety of scholarship opportunities available, including those for undergraduate and postgraduate studies, as well as for vocational short-term training. But, for the sake of simplicity, this article will only cover information exclusively on scholarships for international tertiary students limited to the Asian region.

What the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships Cover
Before jumping to the deadline and requirements of the scholarship, let’s find out the provided benefits. Quoting the official website of the University of Auckland, scholars with a full Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship receive the following:
- Full tuition fees
- Return economy air travel and travel insurance
- Medical insurance when you are in New Zealand
- Provision for students to meet basic living costs
- An establishment allowance to help with set-up costs in New Zealand
- Help with research and thesis costs for many postgraduate students
It is also important to note that the partners of students may be eligible for a work visa that allows them to live and work in New Zealand for the duration of their partner’s study.
Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships 2025 Opening Date
The application period for the 2025 Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships is from February 1 to 28, 2025. The scholarship's official website specifies that the application submission deadline falls on the midday of February 28, 2025, New Zealand time (NZDT).
Nevertheless, the application system may close early to countries with a large volume of applications.
Eligible Countries for the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships
According to the website, international tertiary student scholarships are only, or at least currently, available for countries within the Asia Pacific region. As mentioned earlier, we will only provide information pertinent to Asian citizens.
Please note that the available scholarship study levels may differ from one country to another, despite being in the same region.

- Undergraduate Degree (3-4 years) (Timor-Leste only)
- Postgraduate Certificate (6 months)
- Postgraduate Diploma (1 year)
- Master’s Degree (1-2 years)
- PhD (3.5 years)
