TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The first leg of the AFF Cup 2024 semi-final between Singapore and Vietnam will be played on Thursday evening, December 26, 2024. The Singapore national team will host the match at the Jalan Besar Sports Center Stadium with a capacity of 6,000.
This match was originally scheduled to be played at the Singapore National Stadium, but the semi-final venue was eventually moved due to preparations for singer JJ Lin's concert. From the original 50,000-seat stadium, it was moved to a 6,000-seat stadium.
The small capacity is a disadvantage for the host, who needs the fans' support, considering that Vietnam is the favorite to win. According to The Strait Times' report on Wednesday, 5,375 tickets were sold for home supporters, while 300 tickets were sold for away supporters.
For supporters of both teams who did not get tickets for the first leg, Singapore will hold a series of events to watch the match together. On December 24, Singapore's Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, announced that events will be held at 11 public venues.
The eleven locations are Our Tampines Hub, Heartbeat @ Bedok, One Punggol, Wisma Geylang Serai, Kaki Bukit CC, Keat Hong CC, Jurong Spring CC, Pek Kio CC, Radin Mas CC, Tampines West CC and Buangkok CC.
Meanwhile, Vietnamese newspaper VnExpres reported that tickets for the second leg at the 20,000-seat Viet Tri Stadium sold out online in just 15 minutes.
Singapore advanced to the semi-finals after finishing second in Group A with wins over Cambodia (2-1) at the National Stadium and Timor-Leste (3-0) in Hanoi. They lost 4-2 to defending champions Thailand at the National Stadium and drew 0-0 with Malaysia at Bukit Jalil.
Vietnam finished top of Group B with a 4-1 win away to Laos, a 1-0 home win over Indonesia, a 5-0 win over Myanmar, and a 1-1 draw in the Philippines.
