Tempo.co, Jakarta - The official YouTube channel of Bank Indonesia (BI) was hacked on Tuesday morning, January 21, 2025, at approximately 08:59 a.m. Jakarta time. Ramdan Denny Prakoso, Head of BI's Communications Department, confirmed that the channel had been accessed by unauthorized individuals.
"We would like to inform you that this morning, Bank Indonesia's YouTube account was unlawfully accessed (hacked) by unauthorized individuals," Denny said in an official statement on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
During the breach, hackers streamed content related to Bitcoin on Bank Indonesia's official YouTube channel. However, the hack was successfully halted. The channel has now been restored and has resumed providing official information from the central bank.
Bank Indonesia, as Denny mentioned, is fully committed to consistently providing the best services, including reliable information through its official YouTube channel.
Hacking incidents involving government institutions' accounts and data have been a recurring issue. Last year, numerous institutional accounts were compromised, with some being used to promote online gambling sites.
Head of the Communication and Information System Security Research Center (CISSReC), Pratama Persadha, attributed the hack to inadequate security maintenance. "[This includes neglecting to] update and patch certain applications and software to address vulnerabilities," he explained.
