TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning about the potential for heavy rain thunderstorms in Jakarta later today, Friday, December 20, 2024. The early warning applies to the Thousand Islands and North Jakarta.
Referring to the weather forecast published officially by BMKG on Thursday evening, most of Jakarta this morning is showered with rainfall. The rain intensity is considerably higher in North Jakarta and the Thousand Islands, otherwise known as the Seribu Islands.
Starting at 7:00 a.m. today, rain is expected to subside in Central Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta. Meanwhile, the rain in other parts of Jakarta is predicted to persist, while thunderstorms are forecasted in the Thousand Islands and North Jakarta.
The air temperature in Jakarta is recorded to be no more than 31 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels around 80-95 percent. The wind is blowing southwest, with a speed that could reach 35 kilometers per hour.
In the evening, rain will pour over most of Jakarta, while overcast weather is expected in the Thousand Islands.At night, the rain in South Jakarta and East Jakarta will be heavier than in other parts of the region.
Over the past few days, BMKG has repeatedly warned citizens of bad weather during the year-end holiday period. BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati mentioned several areas with the most extreme weather.
“Watch out especially for the Indian Ocean west of Sumatra, south of the Sunda Strait, south of Java to East Nusa Tenggara,” said BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati at the Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Yogyakarta, Thursday, December 19, 2024, as quoted from Antara.
