TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Chinese Embassy in Indonesia held a reception welcoming Wang Lutong as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Indonesia on Thursday, November 28, 2024 evening. The event was held a month after Wang Lutong arrives in Indonesia last month.
During the event, Wang Lutong expressed appreciation for the cooperation between the two countries. "China and Indonesia are friendly neighboring countries and comprehensive strategic partners," said Wang Lutong in his speech at Ritz-Carlton Jakarta on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
Wang Lutong praised the good relationship between President Prabowo Subianto and President of China Xi Jinping. He also highlighted the joint statement of the two heads of state regarding the China-Indonesia strategic partnership.
According to Wang Lutong, Prabowo's visit will further accelerate the growth of China-Indonesia relations and initiate a new era in building a China-Indonesia community with regional and global influence.
As an ambassador, Wang Lutong has the primary responsibility to strengthen communication and bilateral cooperation. "I hope that I can be a bridge not only between our two governments but also between our business communities and our two peoples," he said.
In a world full of challenges, Wang Lutong emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomacy. As part of countries in the southern hemisphere, China and Indonesia can cooperate to foster partnerships and enhance bilateral and global cooperation. "Not only to safeguard the common interests of developing countries but also to enhance stability and certainty worldwide," he stated.
On the same occasion, Chairman of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin expressed his admiration for Wang Lutong. Sultan mentioned that China is an important partner country for Indonesia. He hoped that Wang Lutong's leadership could strengthen the cooperation between the two countries.
"I believe President Xi Jinping has chosen the right diplomat for the ambassador position in Jakarta. So, our bilateral relationship will escalate to the next level during your tenure," Sultan said in his welcoming speech.
According to Tempo's observations, the welcome event for Wang Lutong was attended by several officials, including Minister of Coordination for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, Deputy Minister of Culture Giring Ganesha, and Deputy Minister of Law Edwar Omar Sharif Hiariej or Eddy Hiariej.
In addition, there were also representatives from other embassies, businessmen, and academics.
