GOOTO.COM, Jakarta - The Traffic Director of the Indonesian National Police Ins. Gen. Aan Suhanan stated that based on a survey by the Ministry of Transportation, it is predicted that there will be a 2.8 percent increase in people's mobilization during the Christmas and New Year holidays in 2024/2025. It is estimated that people's mobilization will reach 100 million people.
"The increase in mobilization will mostly occur on the island of Java, with about 40 percent for tourism trips and over 30 percent for homecoming trips," Aan said, as quoted from the Police public relations page today, Friday, November 29, 2024.
Prior to the Christmas and New Year holidays, the Indonesian National Police Traffic Directorate, together with the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) Jasa Raharja, and the Ministry of Transportation, conducted a survey to assess the readiness of Operation Lilin 2024 at the Cikupa-Purwakarta Post. This step is taken to ensure that all aspects of safety, from traffic flow to the readiness of toll facilities to the safety measures for drivers, can function optimally.
"This is a continuous step to ensure the readiness of infrastructure on the main homecoming routes for this year's Christmas and New Year holidays," he said.
During the inspection of the route, Aan pointed out that there are still several critical points on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, such as at KM 25, KM 47, and KM 70. These points have been identified as potential traffic congestion points, especially during traffic flow intersections.
"We have mapped critical congestion points and conducted simulations to ensure appropriate measures, such as adding lanes and contraflow at several points," Aan explained.
Aan also warned of the possibility of extreme weather conditions at the end of the year and prepared various emergency measures, including how to deal with waterlogging and landslides. In addition, the police and Jasa Marga have prepared pre-emptive measures for stalled vehicles or other technical problems that could slow down traffic flow.
"We urge the public to check their vehicles and ensure that their toll card is topped up before starting their journey to avoid adding to the congestion at the toll gates," said Aan.
