TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The spokesperson for the Constitutional Court, Enny Nurbaningsih, said the court will hold the hearing for 2024 regional election lawsuits starting early January 2025, without confirming the exact dates.
"(The hearing) will begin in early January," said Enny when contacted on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
The Constitutional Court currently still gives chances for candidate pairs to challenge the recent election results. Until Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 2:55 p.m., there have been 211 regional election-related lawsuits submitted at the court’s website.
The majority of the disputes were connected to the regent election with 170 petitions, followed by 39 lawsuits for mayor elections and two from the gubernatorial election.
The two lawsuits at the gubernatorial level came from the South Papua Province. The first petition was submitted by an applicant named M. Andrean Saefudin online on Monday, December 9, while the second one was from Ir Saparuddin.
Both applicants are suing the General Election Commission (KPU) of South Papua over the results of the regional election.
Enny stated that all registered requests will be brought into a judges' deliberation meeting to determine the panel of judges for each case.
Enny mentioned that the Constitutional Court also considers several factors to ensure the judges assigned will not lead to a conflict of interest. "For example, I will not examine the petitions submitted from Yogyakarta,” said Enny.
