TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance in November 2024, cracked down on smuggling activities in the customs sector, such as ethyl alcohol-containing beverages and cigarettes. These activities potentially caused the state to suffer losses amounting to Rp34.7 billion.
The Director General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance, Askolani, stated that they had thwarted 1,115,160 fake imported Group C alcoholic drink excise bands worth a total of Rp115.23 billion. These figures were the result of 2 operations that could potentially cause losses of Rp34.56 billion to the state.
In the first operation, the Customs office successfully seized 10 boxes of alcoholic beverage packages from China containing 600,000 pieces of fake excise bands. Then in the second operation, there were 9 boxes containing 515,160 pieces of fake excise bands.
"Both operations are currently under investigation," said Askolani at a press conference on the results of preventive measures and efforts to combat smuggling in the customs and excise sector at Soekarno-Hatta Airport Cargo Area, Tangerang, on Friday, November 29, 2024.
In addition, the authorities seized 318 bottles of alcoholic beverages in the same period. These bottles were detained for exceeding the taxable goods worth Rp190 million, with a potential loss of Rp57 million. "Currently, these items are classified as government goods," he said.
The Customs also seized 90,520 cigarettes, 29 packages of other tobacco products, 2 kg of shredded tobacco, and 141 cigars for exceeding the limit of taxable goods carried by passengers. The estimated value of the items is Rp226 million with a potential loss of Rp69 million. Currently, these items are classified as government goods.
"We take action against the exceeding of the goods transport limit in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Commerce, which of course we monitor in accordance with these regulations," he said.
