TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, conducted a trial of a direct train journey without transit on the Jakarta-Yogyakarta route on Monday, December 16, 2024.
"Tonight we will try the direct train from Gambir to Tugu Station Yogyakarta. It only takes about 6 hours, which can be said to be comfortable to use," he said in a press conference before trying to use the Direct Train on the Jakarta-Yogyakarta route, at Gambir Station, Monday, December 16, 2024.
Agus will also directly review the readiness of public transportation during this year's Christmas and New Year holiday period at a number of stations and terminals in the Yogyakarta and Solo areas. "Indeed, the task is not easy, but safety, security, and comfort are the priorities of transportation, especially ahead of Christmas and New Year," he said.
Meanwhile, President Director of PT KAI, Didiek Hartantyo, said that the Jakarta-Yogyakarta direct train trial will be valid on December 16 and 17, 2024, departing from Gambir Station at 23.25 WIB and arriving at Yogyakarta Station at 05.28 WIB. "What's the difference with regular trains? It's about 20 minutes faster because this train doesn't stop," he said.
Didiek plans to operate the Jakarta-Yogyakarta direct train after conducting an evaluation after the trial. "We will report the results of the trial evaluation to the Deputy Minister (BUMN), the Minister of Transportation, and the Coordinating Minister (Infrastructure). We will follow up together, if everything goes well, then we will operate it during Christmas and New Year," said Didiek.
In addition, KAI has decided to operate a direct train serving the route from Gambir Station, Jakarta to Semarang Tawang Station, Bank Jateng during the Christmas and New Year period. The trial for the Jakarta-Semarang route was previously conducted on December 9 and 10, 2024. "So for the direct train, after we trial it in Semarang, the travel time is around 5 hours, we will operate it during Nataru," he said.
