TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Elon Musk, the chief executive of Tesla and SpaceX and one of the world’s most influential technology entrepreneurs, has set a new global record in personal wealth, becoming the first individual to reach a net worth of US$600 billion.
Forbes, as cited by NDTV, reports that this marks the highest valuation of Musk’s fortune to date, reflecting strong investor confidence in his companies, particularly SpaceX.
SpaceX is expected to pursue an IPO with a valuation of around US$800 billion, a move that would significantly boost Musk’s already vast wealth.
The billionaire holds roughly 42 percent of SpaceX shares, positioning him to benefit the most from any public listing.
Forbes estimates that the anticipated valuation could add as much as US$168 billion to his fortune, lifting his net worth to approximately US$677 billion as of last Monday.
Musk first crossed the US$500 billion threshold in October 2025, underscoring the rapid pace at which his wealth has expanded over the past year.
Beyond SpaceX, his holdings in Tesla have also played a key role. Musk owns about 12 percent of the electric vehicle maker, whose shares have risen 13 percent so far this year.
Tesla’s stock jumped nearly 4 percent on Monday after Musk announced that the company is testing fully driverless taxis without safety monitors in the front passenger seat.
In November, Tesla shareholders approved a US$1 trillion compensation package for Musk, the largest corporate pay deal in history.
Investors backed the plan as a show of confidence in Musk’s ambition to transform Tesla into a major player in artificial intelligence and robotics, beyond its core electric vehicle business.
Musk’s expanding empire also includes xAI, his artificial intelligence startup, which is reportedly in advanced talks to raise US$15 billion in new equity funding at a valuation of US$230 billion. None of the companies involved, including Tesla, SpaceX, xAI, or Musk himself, have officially confirmed the reports.
