TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned airline Garuda Indonesia is ready to reduce air ticket prices for domestic routes during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 holidays. This policy will be implemented from December 19, 2024, to January 3, 2025.
Wamildan Tsani Panjaitan, President Director of Garuda Indonesia, said this is in line with President Prabowo Subianto's directive to help the public by reducing ticket prices before the year-end holidays.
"This also supports the recovery of the economy, especially in the tourism and creative industries," he said in a written statement on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024.
Wamildan claimed to understand the public's need for affordable air transportation services. Meanwhile, Garuda Indonesia continues to coordinate with stakeholders to further discuss the implementation guidelines of this policy to ensure smooth technical implementation on the field.
According to the planned airfare reduction announced by the Ministry of Transportation, ticket prices are expected to be reduced by up to 10 percent. This reduction will mainly come from supporting ticket cost components such as fuel surcharge, PJP2U, PJP4U, and adjustments to jet fuel or avtur prices at several airports.
"This airfare reduction has also been carefully calculated, taking into account the passenger growth projections during the year-end holidays," he said. With this ticket price reduction, Garuda is optimistic that the passenger volume will grow positively as it will directly impact the company's revenue performance.
In addition, Wamildan said that the government through the Air Ticket Fare Reduction Task Force has reviewed the airfare reduction plan. "We will implement this policy soon after the issuance of all regulations governing the provisions for ticket price reduction by relevant stakeholders," he said.
