TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government, together with retail businesses and shopping mall operators, has officially launched the Indonesia Great Sale 2025, a nationwide shopping festival held ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Indonesia Great Sale 2025 is part of the national “Belanja di Indonesia Aja” (BINA) campaign, initiated by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in collaboration with the Indonesian Retail and Shopping Center Tenants Association (Hippindo).
A total of 380 retail brands across 412 shopping malls nationwide are participating in the festival, offering discounts of up to 80 percent. As the final major shopping event of the year, the program is expected to boost retail sales transactions in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Hippindo Chairman Budihardjo Induansjah said the festival will run from December 18, 2025, to January 4, 2026, and is targeting total transactions of Rp30 trillion.
In addition to deep discounts, the government is offering an 11 percent tax refund incentive for foreign tourists who shop during the event, aimed at stimulating tourism-linked consumption.
The official launch ceremony was attended by Trade Minister Budi Santoso, Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, Hippindo Chairman Budihardjo Induansjah, and Indonesian Shopping Center Association (APPBI) Chairman Alphonzus Widjaja.
Budihardjo noted that in-store retail activity had already increased by 3 percent ahead of the festival and expressed optimism that Indonesia Great Sale 2025 would further lift retail sales, benefiting both local and international brands.
Meanwhile, Alphonzus Widjaja said the Christmas and New Year period traditionally marks the second-largest sales peak for retailers after Eid al-Fitr.
He expressed hope that the festival would help maximize retail performance and support Indonesia’s economic growth target in the fourth quarter.
Alphonzus also urged the Ministry of Tourism to further encourage foreign visitors to shop during the year-end holiday season to maximize retail transactions.
“Please make the most of Indonesia Great Sale 2025 to enjoy a wide range of promotional programs, especially for middle- and lower-income consumers,” Alphonzus said during his remarks at Kota Kasablanka Mall in Jakarta on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
