TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Vice Foreign Minister Anis Matta urged Islamic countries to support and defend Palestinian independence. At the extraordinary summit of the OIC and the Arab League in Riyadh, he called for these countries to strengthen solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people and take concrete actions to defend Palestine.
"The Palestinian struggle to achieve independence is the basis for the formation of the OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation). That is why 'we are all Palestinians' and must help the Palestinian struggle," said Anis Matta at the OIC-Arab League Extraordinary Summit preparatory meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday, as quoted from Antara.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, Anis emphasized the importance of real action by the OIC and Arab League member countries to stop Israel's never-ending oppression of the Palestinian people.
"Words must be immediately carried out in real action, including in ensuring ongoing humanitarian assistance for Palestine," he said.
Anis Matta led the Indonesian delegation at the OIC-Arab League Extraordinary Summit preparatory meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The OIC and Arab League are holding an extraordinary summit on Monday to discuss efforts to stop Israel's atrocities in Palestine and Lebanon.
Through social media X on Friday, Anis stated that the conference "was held in a crucial situation amid the current geopolitical dynamics." He also mentioned that his presence at the conference represented President Prabowo Subianto.
The preparatory meeting was led by Saudi Arabia and attended by representatives from OIC and Arab League member countries such as Algeria, Iran, Lebanon, Egypt, Palestine, and Turkey.
Indonesia's attendance at the Extraordinary Summit is in line with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution to reject colonialism and strive for world peace, as well as President Prabowo Subianto's commitment to supporting the independence of Palestine.
