TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Director of Indonesia's State Logistics Agency (Bulog), Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, emphasized that his agency is strengthening its strategy to address global geopolitical dynamics and drought caused by the extreme El Niño phenomenon to ensure national food security remains secure.

"Bulog's efforts to anticipate global dynamics align with the President's (Prabowo Subianto) statement, stating that no matter what happens, other nations are experiencing difficulties everywhere, but at least we are secure in terms of food security. This was his statement on the State Secretary's official Instagram account," Rizal said in a meeting with Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He emphasized the government's commitment to maintaining national food security, even though many other countries are facing difficulties due to global pressures and climate change.

This statement aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's directive, emphasizing the importance of maintaining national food stability amidst the current evolving global challenges.

Furthermore, the government is ensuring that food prices remain stable and are not affected by geopolitical turmoil, including conflicts in the Middle East that have the potential to impact the global supply chain.

The government rice reserve (CBP) managed by Bulog remains secure, at 4.59 million tons.

Bulog is strengthening synergy with various ministries and institutions, such as the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Trade, and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to address national food challenges.

It is also collaborating with state-owned food enterprises (SOEs) such as ID FOOD and Berdikari, as well as the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to anticipate the impact of climate change on food production.

Furthermore, Bulog is enhancing coordination with the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), particularly Commissions IV, VI, and XI, to obtain policy support and strategic input in addressing global dynamics.

Intensive coordination is also being conducted with various parties, including the private sector in the logistics sector, to ensure the smooth distribution and absorption of agricultural products throughout Indonesia.

Bulog has also established a command center post to monitor global developments and the potential impact of El Niño in real time as part of its rapid response system.

To maintain price stability, Bulog routinely monitors traditional markets with the National Food Agency (Bapanas) and the Indonesian National Police Food Task Force up to three times a week.

Furthermore, supervision is also carried out at the producer level to ensure prices remain in line with the highest retail price and the government's established reference price.

"We also monitor production factories to ensure prices are in line with the highest retail price (HET) and reference sales price (HAP)," he explained.

Bulog is also actively providing information to the public to prevent panic and ensure food security remains under control amidst global issues and climate change.

As an additional measure, Rizal said, Bulog is also conducting market operations and implementing internal efficiency measures, including flexible work policies for staff, while still ensuring field teams are actively collecting farmers' grain.

"However, the field team specifically responsible for collecting grain must be present. If they are not present, they cannot collect the grain," Rizal said.
