TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is collaborating with the National Board of Zakat (Baznas), the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), and several other non-governmental organizations for humanitarian aid fundraising for Palestine.
The ministry aims to raise US$200 million, or Rp3.2 trillion, said deputy foreign minister Anis Matta.
"We’re starting today with an initial target of around US$200 million," said Anis during the signing of Indonesia's campaign support for Palestine at the ministry office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
Anis considered this amount relatively small, considering that independent institutions in Palestine have long been collecting aid funds.
The ministry is yet to set a deadline for the fundraiser, but assured that collected funds will be distributed to the people of Palestine. "We do not set a target, but will fundraise through Ramadan," he said.
The funds raised are also allocated for the conflict resolution during the ceasefire deal and the reconstruction process in Gaza. "There is an emergency program during the current ceasefire. We will also assist in the reconstruction process in Gaza later," he said.
On the same occasion, Anis emphasized President Prabowo Subianto's commitment to support Palestinian independence. He said the president’s support is personal, not just due to his status as an Indonesian leader. "Palestine is a part of his heart," said Anis in his speech.
Prior to this, deputy foreign minister Arif Havas Oegroseno emphasized Prabowo’s government's steadfast support for Palestine, a country under Israeli occupation. As stated in the Constitution, Arif stated that colonialism worldwide must be eliminated.
According to Arif, Indonesia has made various efforts to support Palestine through international forums, from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to the UN. However, Indonesia is not a region that plays a primary role in the independence of Palestine.
