TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa responded to the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) spotlight on global uncertainty, which is predicted to persist for some time. Purbaya made the statement during a meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
Previously, Georgieva estimated that global uncertainty would continue, fueled by geopolitical tensions and energy price dynamics.
Georgieva stated that the IMF does not have the authority to reduce global uncertainty but is prepared to provide financial support to countries in need.
In response, Purbaya explained that Indonesia has adequate fiscal buffers. "Of course, Indonesia does not need assistance because our budget is sufficient, and we still have a large buffer of Rp 420 trillion," said Purbaya, as quoted from Antara.
In a press statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, Purbaya revealed that the IMF is concerned about Indonesia's ability to withstand current global uncertainty.
He also explained that the Indonesian government has made strategic maneuvers by changing its fiscal policy direction since the end of last year, with the effects beginning to be seen in the current economy. This change in strategy has enabled Indonesia to better respond to pressure, including when global oil prices soar.
"She (Kristalina Georgieva) seems pleased with the situation," said Purbaya.
According to Purbaya, although the IMF does not formulate specific policies to alleviate global pressure, the institution will announce countries capable of maintaining good performance. Regarding this, Purbaya is optimistic that doubts about Indonesia's fiscal policy have subsided.
Purbaya has also held strategic meetings with World Bank officials and representatives of international credit rating agencies such as S&P Global Ratings. Several global institutions, he said, appreciate Indonesia's strategic fiscal policy direction under President Prabowo Subianto's leadership.
The World Bank has expressed interest in deepening cooperation with Indonesia, especially in supporting long-term development, poverty alleviation, and financing strategic projects in developing countries.
