TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) has set a target of attracting between 14.6 and 16 million foreign tourists to Indonesia in 2025. This target, announced during the 2024 Year-End Press Conference held at the Ministry's office on Friday, December 20, 2024, represents a slight increase from the 14.3 million target set for 2024.
“We are aiming for between 14.6 and 16 million foreign tourist arrivals next year,” said Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri.
For domestic tourism, the Ministry has set a target of 1.08 billion trips in 2025. This figure is slightly lower than the 2023 and 2024 targets, which were set between 1.2 and 1.4 billion trips.
The Ministry also aims to achieve a 4.6% contribution of the tourism sector to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2025, with projected foreign exchange earnings ranging from US$19 billion to US$22.1 billion. The target employment in the tourism sector is set at 25.8 million people.
Furthermore, Widiyanti stated that the projected number of foreign tourist arrivals in December is estimated to range between 1 million to 1.325 million visits. This projection aligns with the anticipated revenue generation from these visits, which is projected to be between Rp22.5 trillion and Rp29.2 trillion.
Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia recorded 11.6 million foreign tourist arrivals by October 2024. While this figure falls short of the 2024 target, the Minister emphasized that it exceeds the lower limit of the target, which was set at 10.4 million visits.
Budijanto Ardiansjah, Secretary General of the Association of the Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASITA), has previously suggested that the Ministry of Tourism prioritize attracting foreign tourists to achieve its ambitious targets. He emphasized the need to review the Visa Free Short Stay (BVKS) policy to facilitate entry for tourists from key source markets, such as China and Australia.
For long-term programs, he said the Ministry of Tourism needs to focus on targeted marketing and promotional campaigns. He also highlighted the need to conduct thorough market research to identify and prioritize high-demand markets, ensuring that promotional efforts are effectively targeted and yield optimal results.
Moreover, Budijanto said the Ministry of Tourism needs to improve human resources within the tourism sector and address the issue of airfare costs to maintain the attractiveness of Indonesia as a travel destination.
