TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia will face Saudi Arabia in the sixth match of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers for the Asian zone at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. Indonesian national team coach Shin Tae-yong has expressed confidence in his team's ability to challenge Saudi Arabia.
“The players fought hard in the previous match against Saudi Arabia in Jeddah. I believe that tomorrow's outcome will depend on their determination,” Shin Tae-yong said during a pre-match press conference at the GBK Stadium in Jakarta on Monday, November 18, 2024.
The match between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia will kick off at 7 p.m. Jakarta time. This is Indonesia's second home match in November 2024, following a disappointing 0-4 loss to Japan.
The South Korean coach acknowledged that Saudi Arabia, under the guidance of new coach Herve Renard, has strengthened significantly, particularly with the addition of promising young players.
“Both teams will be equally fatigued, so the outcome will hinge on their performance on the day,” said Shin Tae-yong.
Indonesian midfielder Thom Haye expressed optimism about the team's chances of securing a positive result at home, referencing the 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia in Jeddah. However, he did not deny that being defeated by Japan at home had a significant impact on the players.
“The result against Japan is not the end. We still have five more matches ahead,” he said.
The 29-year-old midfielder emphasized the importance of consistency and focus for the Garuda squad. He believes the team is well-prepared to face Saudi Arabia and will give their all. “We've analyzed Saudi Arabia's gameplay and are ready to give our all tomorrow. There's no doubt about our commitment,” he added.
A victory over Saudi Arabia would significantly boost Indonesia's chances of securing a top-three or top-four finish in Group C. Conversely, a loss would make qualification for the next round more challenging.
