Earlier today, at around 9:00 a.m. local time, a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck parts of India, Nepal, and Tibet. Damage was observed in several residential buildings in Tingri in Tibet, Kathmandu in Nepal, and Bihar State in India. Residents rushed out of their homes to save their lives.

The China Earthquake Network Center reported that the shaking damaged buildings around Shigatse and caused people to run into the streets in neighboring Nepal and India. The quake that struck at 9:05 a.m. local time had a depth of 10 kilometers, the report said, revising its magnitude from an earlier 6.9.

Destroyed shopfronts could be seen in a video showing the impact from the nearby town of Lhatse, with debris scattered onto the street. Reuters was able to confirm the location from nearby buildings, windows, street layouts, and signage that matched satellite imagery and street views. The date could not be independently verified.

The shaking was felt in Nepal's capital, Katmandu, about 400 kilometers away, prompting residents to flee their homes. The quake was also felt in the northern Indian state of Bihar, which borders Nepal. When the walls shook, people rushed out of their houses and apartments into open areas. So far, no reports of damage or loss of property have been received, officials in India said.
