TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation provides three free homecoming programs for the 2024 Christmas and New Year holidays.
Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, said these programs are organized by the Directorate General of Land Transportation, the Directorate General of Railways, and the Directorate General of Sea Transportation.
"With a total capacity of 38,772 passengers and 2,320 motorcycles," said Dudy in a meeting with Commission V of the House of Representatives at the Parliament Building, Senayan, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
Dudy explained that the Directorate General of Land Transportation provides 11 homecoming routes from Jakarta to Solo, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Semarang, Wonogiri, Cilacap, Purwokerto, Malang, Madiun, and Kediri. He said there are 88 buses and 2 trucks with a capacity of 3,500 passengers.
The Directorate General of Railways prepares the Jakarta-Gudang Lempuyangan route (Gudang Station, Cirebon Prujakan Station, Purwokerto Station, Kutoarjo Station, and Lempuyangan Station round trip). The capacity, according to Dody, is 5,300 passengers and 2,320 motorcycles. "The period for the free motorcycle transport is 10 days,” said Dudy.
Lastly, the Directorate General of Sea Transportation prepares 100 round-trip maritime transportation routes, with a capacity for the free homecoming of 29,972 passengers.
According to their survey, the Ministry of Transportation predicts mobility of 110.67 million people during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Dudy said the potential mobility for those traveling within provinces is estimated at 54.81 million people and between provinces at 55.86 million people.
Regarding the reasons for traveling, Dudy said that 45.28 percent of the population is expected to travel to tourist destinations, while 32.36 percent are going to their hometowns. Those who celebrate Christmas and New Year in their hometown account for 19.96 percent and 2 percent will travel for work-related reasons.
