TEMPO.CO, Semarang - Former President Joko Widodo or Jokowi is set to join several campaign events alongside the gubernatorial candidate pair of Ahmad Luthfi and Taj Yasin Maimoen in Central Java. Jokowi's involvement is expected to bolster the electability of the number two pair.
The planned campaign visits include Banyumas, West Pantura, and East Pantura, although these locations may be subject to change.
Jokowi's presence is anticipated to energize the Central Java gubernatorial election. "The public's participation is crucial, as this gubernatorial election is a people's choice,” he stated in a press release shared by the Luthfi-Yasin team on Thursday, November 14, 2024.
Jokowi's support for Luthfi stems from their previous relationship when Luthfi served as the Central Java Police Chief. “During my time as Mayor, Mas Luthfi was the Police Chief. We developed a strong bond as old friends,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Taj Yasin is the son of Maimoen Zubair, the leader of the Al-Anwar Rembang Islamic boarding school. “I have been invited by Gus Yasin’s father several times, and I feel like a son to the late Mbah Moen,” Jokowi shared.
Handi Tri Ujiono, Chair of the Central Java Election Commission, confirmed that Jokowi is eligible to participate in the campaign, having stepped down from the presidential position. “He is no longer a state official, so his involvement is permissible under the rules,” he said.
