TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto arrived at the Elysee Palace on Friday, January 23, 2026. He continued his visit to Paris on Friday afternoon after delivering an address at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
At the historic French palace, the Head of State attended a private dinner with President Emmanuel Macron, a meeting reflecting the strong friendship between the two nations.
Upon arriving at the Elysee Palace grounds, Prabowo was welcomed by Macron. The ceremony featured an Honor Guard and a military band. The two heads of state shook hands and embraced before walking together into the palace.
Prabowo and Macron then headed to Le Salon des Portraits for the private dinner. According to the presidenri.go.id website, the room served as the venue for the meeting between the two leaders.
Macron revealed the focus of the Friday evening meeting. "I am pleased to welcome President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, to Paris today," Macron said in an official statement quoted by Antara in Jakarta on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
"Together, we are strengthening the strategic partnership that connects Indonesia and France in various fields, as well as our alignment on global and international issues that France is determined to promote during its presidency in the G7 frame," Macron said in the same statement.
However, Macron did not disclose the specific "alignment" between Indonesia and France on global issues, particularly regarding the Gaza Board of Peace initiated by United States President Donald J. Trump.
Indonesia officially joined as a member and signed the charter for the Board of Peace during the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday. Meanwhile, President Macron stated that France rejects the U.S. invitation to join, as France maintains that the United Nations should restore stability and peace in Gaza, Palestine.
The French government stated that the Trump-led Board of Peace sits outside the agreed framework for Gaza’s recovery. It also raised questions regarding the presence of the United Nations, established principles, and the UN structure as the recognized world institution for addressing ceasefire and post-war recovery.
