TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The University of Indonesia (UI) has suspended the academic status of 16 students from the Faculty of Law at UI who are suspected of sexual harassment. The suspension of the students' status took place during the period of April 15 to May 30, 2026.
Erwin Agustian Panigoro, the Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Relations at the University of Indonesia, stated that the sanction was imposed based on the recommendation of the UI Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force.
"This recommendation is part of the continued efforts to ensure that the examination process runs optimally, objectively, and fairly," Erwin said in a written statement received on Wednesday night, April 15, 2026.
During the suspension, the alleged perpetrators are not allowed to participate in any educational activities, including lectures, academic guidance, and other activities related to academic matters.
"This policy is a preventive administrative measure taken to maintain the integrity of the examination process and protect all parties involved," he said.
In addition, they are also not allowed to be on campus premises, except for the purpose of examination by the task force or for urgent specific needs that cannot be postponed, under the university's supervision.
The university has also imposed restrictions on the involvement of the alleged perpetrators in student organization activities. Intensive monitoring is carried out to prevent any direct or indirect interaction with the victims or witnesses during the examination process.
"This step is taken as part of the university's commitment to ensure that the examination process is carried out objectively, protect all parties involved, and maintain a conducive academic environment," Erwin stated.
