TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Malaysian Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad, condemns the hypocritical stance of Europe towards the war launched by Israel in Gaza.
"I used to consider Europeans as champions of human rights. Now I know that they are hypocrites. I have lost the respect I had for them," he wrote on his social media X, Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
What was seen through Al Jazeera TV station about the genocide carried out by Israel against the people of Palestine in Gaza was horrendous.
"Thousands of Palestinians have been killed. Thousands more are injured. Thousands more have lost their legs and arms," said Mahathir.
He witnessed cities in Gaza being leveled to the ground. Even the refugee camps made of flimsy tents have been bulldozed and bombed. The refugees were killed. Those who survived fled. But there is no safe place for them.
"I have never seen atrocities like those happening in the so-called civilized world. It is baffling. There are no signs of humanity," he condemned.
He also criticized other TV channels that barely broadcast anything about the genocide against the people of Palestine in Gaza. It's as if it didn't happen, he said.
Since Al Jazeera is not watched by white Europeans and Americans, they must believe that nothing is happening to the people of Gaza.
"They even believe that Israel's attacks are intended to achieve security for the state of Israel. And they support Israel's war against Palestine," he wrote.
Basically, according to Mahathir, they support Israel's genocide war against Palestine.
Together with Indonesia, Malaysia consistently supports the struggle of the Palestinian people to be free from Israeli colonization.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Monday, November 4, 2024, said his country had prepared a draft resolution for the UN General Assembly. The resolution will propose that Israel be expelled as a member of the world body "if there are violations of law, regulations, and decisions on issues involving Palestine," reported Anadolu Agency.
Anwar told parliament members that the draft resolution is in the negotiation process and is expected to be submitted to the UNGA for approval "soon".
"Decisive steps, including Israel's exclusion from the United Nations (UN) following human rights violations and genocidal crimes committed by Israel, must be enforced as soon as possible," said Anwar.
"Malaysia will ensure that this agenda is heard and addressed so that the atrocities of the Israeli regime can be stopped, in addition to allowing crucial aid to reach the Palestinian people as the massacre continues to worsen," he said, according to a brief excerpt from his speech shared in X.
