TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Racing for Red Bull, Max Verstappen, successfully defended the Formula 1 champion title after finishing fifth in the Las Vegas Grand Prix at Las Vegas Strip Circuit, Nevada, on Sunday, November 24, 2024. He secured the title for the fourth consecutive time.
Finishing fifth was enough for Verstappen to secure the championship as his McLaren F1 Team rival, Lando Norris, could only finish in sixth place.
In the Las Vegas GP, Mercedes driver George Russell claimed victory with the fastest time of 1 hour 22 minutes 05.969 seconds.
On the second spot on the podium was Russell's teammate, Lewis Hamilton, finishing with a time of +7.313 seconds. The last spot on the podium was secured by Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz with a time of +11.906 seconds.
Starting from pole position, George Russell faced no hindrances throughout the race and dominated until the end.
Meanwhile, Max Verstappen, starting from fifth, maintained his position until crossing the finish line.
This victory marked Russell's second win in the Grand Prix this season.
Russell's win marks the first time in history that seven drivers have won more than one Grand Prix in a Formula 1 season.
This F1 season still has two more Grand Prix races, the Qatar series on December 1 and the Abu Dhabi series on December 8.
With two remaining Grand Prix races, Verstappen, who now has 403 points, mathematically cannot be caught by Norris, who has a total of 340 points.

Verstappen's Comments after Winning
Max Verstappen attributed his success in winning the championship to learning from mistakes this season. "I think on the one hand, of course, I still prefer last season; I really enjoyed it, but I think this season surely once again taught me a lot of lessons," he said.
"I'm very proud of how we handled it as a team. Of course, it makes it also very, very special, and a beautiful season," said the Dutch driver.
"It has been a long season, and of course, we started out tremendous, it was almost like a fun adventure, but then we went through a tough journey," Verstappen commented.
With this fourth championship title, Verstappen now joins the elite drivers who have won the Formula 1 championship four times or more, such as legendary drivers Juan Manuel Fangio, Alain Prost, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, and Lewis Hamilton.
Despite securing the world championship title, Verstappen is still determined to win the remaining two grand prix races to bring Red Bull to become the best constructor this season.
