TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Volunteer Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) reported that Israeli forces again attacked the Indonesian Hospital in Bait Lahia, North Gaza, Palestine. The attack that occurred on Wednesday morning, November 27, caused damage to several facilities.
Citing MER-C's official website, Indonesian Hospital staff stated that Israeli soldiers attacked with tanks and drones. They shot at all windows, the hospital's roof, water tanks, and other facilities. "Electricity also went out due to the attack," wrote the MER-C press release on Friday, November 28, 2024.
MER-C volunteer in the Gaza Strip, Edy Wahyudi, had previously reported around 26 Israeli tanks surrounding the Indonesian Hospital. MER-C is still trying to send medical teams and aid back to North Gaza, especially after the region was blockaded following Israel's forced evacuation order in early October.
The sixth Emergency Medical Team (EMT) MER-C is currently stationed at two hospitals in Gaza City, Al-Shifa Hospital and Public Aid Hospital, and has applied for entry five times through WHO to reach North Gaza. They intended to assist in providing services at Indonesian Hospital and Kamal Udwan, but Israel has yet to grant permission.
Last Wednesday's incident was not the first attack by Israeli forces. On October 19, Gaza Deputy Health Minister Yousef Abu Rish said Israel attacked the top floor of the Indonesian Hospital in North Gaza.
On November 25, 2024, Israel also issued an evacuation order for Beit Lahiya and Jabalia areas in Gaza, Palestine. This was reported by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees or UNRWA. There are 43 UNRWA facilities within the impact zone of Israel's evacuation area.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), until November 22, 2024, 281 personnel have died globally. Most of them, precisely 249 people, were UNRWA staff in the Gaza Strip.
