TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Meta is reportedly developing a standalone application for its original AI chatbot, Meta AI. According to The Verge, the company behind Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram aims to expand its user reach and compete with other AI-based services like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.
The report states that the Meta AI app is set to launch in the second quarter of this year, around April-June 2025. To date, Meta AI has only been accessible through its website and select Meta-owned apps. By releasing a standalone app, Meta seeks to engage users who do not use its social media platforms.
Similar to other chatbots, Meta AI can answer questions, generate images, edit photos, and perform various tasks. Recently, the chatbot introduced a 'memory' feature to provide better recommendations.
In addition to launching the standalone app, Meta is also testing a paid subscription service for its AI, which will include additional features, according to a TechCrunch report. However, no further details on pricing or specific additional features have been disclosed yet.
Meta AI currently boasts more than 700 million monthly active users. The company has also released several open AI models, such as Llama, which is believed to be a strong competitor to OpenAI.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg remains committed to investing in AI services. He stated that the company will allocate up to $65 billion to support its AI development ambitions. Meta is also set to host its first AI-focused developer conference, LlamaCon, in late April 2025.
