TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Former Minister of Education Nadiem Makarim's legal advisor, Dodi Abdulkadir, responded to his client's case files being handed over to the Jakarta Corruption Court yesterday, December 8, 2025.
"Of course, we hope that the trial process can proceed objectively," said Dodi when contacted on Monday, December 8, 2025. He added that this would prove that the policies implemented by Nadiem were based on good intentions.
Dodi believes that Nadiem's Chromebook procurement policy during his tenure was in line with his authority and procedures. "It has provided benefits and saved at least Rp1.2 trillion compared to using Windows," said Dody. He claimed that the cost savings would be even greater compared to the iOS operating system.
Furthermore, Dodi stated that the policy also formed the basis for the transition from the National Examination to the new Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) system. The policy was also deemed successful in overcoming the challenges posed by Covid-19, which required a large-scale shift to remote learning.
In addition to Nadiem, the case files of three other suspects have also been transferred to the court. They are Ibrahim Arief, a former consultant of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology; Sri Wahyuningsih, the Director of Elementary Schools at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology for the 2020-2021 period; and Mulyatsyah, the Director of Junior High Schools at the same ministry for the 2020-2021 period.
In a statement from the Attorney General's office, prosecutors mentioned that Nadiem instructed Ibrahim, Sri Wahyuningsih, Mulyatsyah, and Jurist Tan, who is still at large. This instruction was given during a Zoom Meet held on May 6, 2020, to procure ChromeOS-based laptops from Google. However, the study indicating that Chromebook was superior to other products, such as Windows, was only published in June 2020.
Prosecutors stated that Nadiem formed a WhatsApp group named "Mas Menteri Core Team" in August 2019, three months before he was inaugurated as a minister in October 2019. The group was used to discuss the plans for digitalizing education programs in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The group was formed by Nadiem along with his former special staff, Fiona Handayani. Fiona has also been questioned several times as a witness in this case.
