TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has announced that Value-Added Tax (VAT) will be increased to 12 percent starting January 1, 2025. This increase will be applied to all products, except for exempted goods such as basic necessities.
With this new policy, taxes on entertainment products including streaming services such as Netflix and Spotify will also increase next year.
This information was also conveyed by the Director General of Taxes, Suryo Utomo, in a press conference held at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs on Monday, December 16, 2024.
Based on calculations made by Tempo, this is the estimated price of Netflix and Spotify subscriptions after the VAT increase.
1. Netflix

- After tax: Rp60,480 (previously Rp59,940)

- Price: Rp65,000

Standard Plan for higher video quality with a maximum resolution of 1080p (Full HD)
- Price: Rp120,000
- After tax: Rp134,400 (previously Rp133,200)
Premium Plan for the best viewing experience with Ultra HD or 4K HDR resolution
- Price: Rp186,000
- After tax: Rp208,320 (previously Rp206,460)
2. Spotify

- Price: Rp10,700 per week
- After tax: Rp11,984 (was Rp11,877)
Premium Individual
- Price: Rp54,990 per month
- After tax: Rp61,589 (was Rp61,039)
